Airline ticket sales by U.S. travel agencies increase 175% year-over-year in September


ARLINGTON, Virginia – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) today released data showing that airline ticket sales by ARC-accredited travel agencies increased 175% year-over-year in September 2021. The consolidated dollar value of Tickets sold by agencies in September totaled $ 3.2 billion, up from $ 1.2 billion in September 2020 and slightly higher than the August 2021 total. *

On a month-over-month basis, September 2021 international travel and total travel were up 3% and 1%, respectively. Domestic travel to the United States increased by less than 1%.

“Historically, we expect sales and total trips to decline month over month in September,” said Steve Solomon, vice president of global sales, marketing operations and experience. client at ARC. “This year, month-over-month sales started to decline between July and August due to travel restrictions triggered by the Delta variant. We are encouraged to see this decline stabilize and ticket sales and travel numbers improve with the news of international travel to the United States becoming easier for vaccinated travelers starting in November. ”

Total passenger trips settled by the CRA in September 2021 increased 103% year-over-year, from 7.6 million to 15.4 million. Domestic passenger travel in the United States increased 98% to 11 million years ago. International passenger travel increased 115% to 4.4 million during the same period. The average price of round-trip tickets in the United States rose to $ 390 in September 2021, from $ 343 in September 2020.
