Cambridge’s former travel agency could be turned into a new bubble tea bar
A former travel agency in Cambridge could become a new bubble tea bar. An application has been submitted to Cambridge City Council to alter the storefront of Hays Travel’s former base in St Andrew’s Street.
The company behind the plans, Tiawan No.1, Xing Fu Tang, is looking to open its first store in Cambridge. It currently has stores around the world, but only three other stores in the UK, one in London, one in Birmingham and one in Glasgow.
On its website, the company said, “Xing Fu Tang preserves a traditional method of hand-stirring sugar and has developed an international business profile based on our unique beverage preparation and preservation.

“Xing Fu Tang insists on using pure, natural raw ingredients and cooking fresh brown sugar daily. Deliver state-of-the-art on-site sales performance to give each customer a unique visual experience, including a transparent perspective on the beverage preparation process.
“The simple, pure scent of brown sugar recalls childhood memories and an accessible happiness that reminds us of freshness, purity, [and] heat.
“We replace regular white sugar with brown and the taste of our drink becomes much better and more aromatic. The reason we use brown sugar is because brown sugar is a type of traditional sweet that older generations in Taiwan have always enjoyed and are used to make local snacks. The application for the new storefront design is currently awaiting a decision from the municipal council.
