Brussels said the EU’s COVID pass – used for cross-border travel – will expire nine months after the last dose of the vaccine.

A reminder will be necessary to extend the validity of the certificate.

In a travel recommendation unveiled Thursday afternoon, the European Commission updated the rules for the COVID pass – which has been in place since the start of the summer – to take into account the coronavirus outbreak and the deployment of booster injections.

Under the proposed amendment, the COVID pass – known as the EU’s digital COVID certificate – will only be valid for travel through the block for nine months after the last dose of the so-called “primary series” vaccine: one dose for the Johnson & Johnson jab and two doses for the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines.

Newly released data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) shows that vaccine protection declines after the first six months and recommended have a booster to extend immunity beyond this period.

The European Commission says the additional three months on top of the six will give EU countries more flexibility in their vaccination campaigns. Health policy is a national competence and each country is developing its own vaccine deployment. The purchase of the photographs is however centralized by the EU via joint purchasing agreements.

The executive is now evaluating how long the recall will remain valid.

Apart from proof of vaccination, the certificate can also be obtained with a negative coronavirus test taken within the last 72 hours or a declaration of medical recovery.

The fundamental rules of the system will remain intact: Pass holders have the right to be exempt from travel restrictions, such as testing and quarantine, regardless of which EU country they come from.

Citizens who do not have the certificate will be allowed to travel but may be subject to additional requirements before or after arrival.

Children over 12 years old will have to follow the same rules as adults.

“It is obvious that the pandemic is not yet over,” said Didier Reynders, the European Commissioner for Justice. “Travel rules must take this volatile situation into account.”

The recommendation is to be adopted by the 27 EU countries, some of which have publicly urged the executive to adapt the rules and make way for booster injections.

Reynders is hoping the updated framework will be in place by early January.

The commissioner also said the EU was leaving behind its country-by-country approach to the pandemic and now focused on a person-based strategy, which will combine the number of new infections, vaccination rate and testing to determine rates. high and low. risk areas.

“This takes into account [the fact that] vaccinated people are better protected against the virus, even if it is not completely, ”said Reynders.

To date, over 76% of the EU’s adult population is fully vaccinated, although significant differences between Member States remain entrenched, especially in Eastern Europe.

The EU’s digital pass went into effect on July 1 for an initial period of 12 months, with the expectation that the pandemic will be over by next summer. Brussels considers the program a success: more than 650 million certificates have been issued to date and 51 countries, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and Singapore, are connected to the system.

Nevertheless, the divergent deployment booster shots across the block is about to confuse citizens. Along with the European certificate, most Member States have introduced the use of green passes to allow entry into indoor spaces such as bars, restaurants and cinemas.

Even if the national and European certificates are connected to the same IT infrastructure, the rules of use differ in practice. The EU system only applies to cross-border travel and does not influence how a government can use its health card within its territory.

The new recommendation comes the same day because the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine in children aged 5 to 11 years.

What is the IATA Travel Pass and do I need it for travel? https://notdonetravelling.com/what-is-the-iata-travel-pass-and-do-i-need-it-for-travel/ Tue, 26 Oct 2021 07:00:00 +0000 https://notdonetravelling.com/what-is-the-iata-travel-pass-and-do-i-need-it-for-travel/ For most international travel, you will need to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, or proof that you have recovered from the virus in order to cross borders. For most international travel, you will need to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, or proof that you have recovered from the virus in order to cross borders.

With many travelers and airlines looking for an easy way to store this information digitally, the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass health information verification service is being rolled out by more and more people. more airlines, just like its competitors like CommonPass and VeriFLY. They are not vaccination passports, so what are they, how do they work, who is behind them and should you be using them?

What is the IATA Travel Pass?

The IATA Travel Pass is one of many “health certificate” services that some airlines use to help them verify the validity of the proof you send them of your COVID-19 status, whether it is your vaccination, recent test, illness, or a combination of all three.

It is basically an app on your phone where you take photos of your vaccination records, a recent test, or proof that you have recovered from COVID-19 within a certain time period specified by the government of the United States. where you are going (and sometimes from). These are then verified and your airline is given a green light or a red light to allow you to travel, depending on the travel rules of the government of your destination country.

Dozens of airlines are experimenting with or using it, along with passes from other providers, to help them process your documentation, ideally well in advance of your arrival at the airport. This helps them reduce the queues and the cost of checking your documents by staff members.

It’s different from national or regional health card wallets, like the TousAntiCovid in France, the Excelsior Pass in New York or the NHS COVID Pass in the UK. However, in the future, there may be links between them.

Other passes exist, CommonPass and VeriFLY being also relatively widely used. Keep in mind that airlines may test multiple pass options on different routes, so check all emails carefully and check their website to confirm which ones you can use.

How do they work?

You take photos of your documentation or upload an existing image, depending on the functionality of the different applications. This is then processed by the staff of the application provider – whether it is the IATA Travel Pass, CommonPass, VeriFLY or otherwise – who confirm whether your documentation is valid.

It can be a bit of a hassle to have to take a picture of the daily immunization card or test result that is in an app on your phone along with another app on your phone. Keeping hard copies of your vaccination certificates and test results can be very helpful, but in a pinch, you can always find a friend to send them to and then take a photo from their phone.

Once the treatment is complete, which usually only takes a few minutes or hours, you basically get a green light indicating that you are ready to go, or a red light which means you cannot travel until you have solved a problem.

This may be because: you have been vaccinated with a vaccine not recognized in your destination; you sent the wrong type of test (antigen not PCR, say); your test was not taken recently enough (it may have been taken 49 hours before your departure, but your destination requires it to be less than 48 hours); or simply that they could not read your documents.

Keep an eye out for this: Getting another vaccination isn’t exactly a fixable problem, but getting another test might not be the end of the world.

Who manages these passes?

The IATA Travel Pass is managed by an airline industry group, the International Air Transport Association, which is like a Better Business Bureau for airlines. Remember that IATA is not a governmental or intergovernmental body, it is an association of airlines.

CommonPass is run by a public not-for-profit trust with links to the World Economic Forum (sometimes called Davos, after its annual meeting location) and the Rockefeller Foundation. VeriFLY, meanwhile, is a product of biometric authentication software company Daon. Airlines basically outsource verification to these apps, but in some cases airlines require you to download relevant information directly to them.

If you are concerned about what happens to your data, this is certainly a valid concern. As an example, British Airways uses VeriFLY for all flights to the UK. But its fine print says: “The VeriFLY app is completely independent from British Airways and you are submitting your information directly to Daon (acting as data controller), please check Daon’s privacy policy and terms and conditions.” However, it’s worth reading the fine print on VeriFLY to fully understand how your data will be used.

Where will I use a ticket, is it compulsory and should I use it?

An increasing number of airlines are using them, so you will likely see them the next time you take an international flight.

Right now, they’re usually not fully required, but you can expect to receive several emails encouraging you to use them. You may also start to see accelerated queues for people who took the time to enter their data. After all, it will take less time for an expert in these processes to check your documents remotely a day in advance than for a stressed registrar to try to find out whether your vaccination certificate is valid or not.

So should we use it? Well, if you have any privacy concerns, those seem to be valid – this technology was developed quite quickly, and it’s worth reading the privacy policies of the app if you have any concerns.

GEORGE TOWN, October 25 – The Asia-Pacific section of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has proposed that the Malaysian government work with several countries to develop a special pass for business travelers attending international conferences .

Section president Ashwin Gunasekeran said it would make it easier for business travelers to attend international meetings, conventions or conferences for official reasons.

“If some countries were to work together to offer a pass for business travelers, it would make it easier for them to attend international conferences and events for business purposes,” he said in an interview with Malaysian courier today.

He said that currently, some business travelers are required to undergo quarantine or more if they are to travel to multiple countries, in addition to undergoing different Covid-19 testing procedures.

The proposed business pass would make the process easier for these travelers as it would allow them to travel to their destinations after being tested for Covid-19, he said.

Malaysia could work with several countries to develop such a system, he said, adding that it would allow participants of international trade events to travel smoothly.

Ashwin, who is also managing director of the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), said the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry is now picking up as countries reopen their borders.

However, there were still uncertainties and a lack of standardization between countries in terms of regulations and requirements for the acceptance of international visitors.

Among other things, he said this included the non-recognition of certain Covid-19 vaccines or the vaccination administered in certain countries.

“Some countries require their own Covid-19 tests, so even if the visitor has had a swab test before arriving, the visitor may need to do it again in the country where they arrived,” he said .

Ashwin said this meant a multi-destination business traveler would have to be repeatedly tested in close succession or undergo long quarantines for brief visits.

The proposed travel visa would reduce those restrictions and promote business travel as well as MICE activity in the country, he said.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that six airlines will implement the agency’s IATA Travel Pass as part of a phased rollout across their networks.

Airlines include Etihad Airways, Jazeera Airways, Jetstar, Qantas, Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian, and they will join Emirates as pioneers in implementing the app.

The announcement was made at the 77th IATA Annual General Meeting in Boston and follows eleven months of testing by 76 airlines.

The app allows travelers to check their travel requirements, receive test results and scan their vaccination certificates. At present, it accepts certificates from 52 countries and that number will increase to 74 countries by the end of November.

Willie Walsh, Managing Director of IATA, commented:

“After months of testing, IATA Travel Pass is now entering the operational phase. The app has proven to be an effective tool in dealing with the complex mess of traveler health credentials that governments need. And it’s a big vote of confidence that some of the world’s best-known airline brands will be making it available to their customers in the coming months.

IATA recently upgraded its Travel Pass digital passport application, authorizing the upload of the EU and UK Covid digital vaccination certificates to the pass, and he said the DCC should “serve as a model” for other nations.

Six airlines plan to implement the International Air Transport Association’s Travel Pass health passport tool on a large scale, the organization said.

Emirates announced at the end of September as the first carrier to globally implement the Travel Pass, which provides information on travel requirements, access to Covid-19 test centers and digital documentation of results. vaccination tests and certificates. After tests on certain routes from last April, Emirates will now have the tool on its entire network this month.

On Tuesday, IATA announced that Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Qantas and its low-cost subsidiary Jetstar Airways, Royal Jordanian and Jazeera Airways of Kuwait also plan to implement the Travel Pass on their networks as part of a “gradual deployment”.

In the past 11 months, a total of 76 airlines have tested Travel Pass technology, and it is now ready for the operational phase, IATA chief executive Willie Walsh said in a statement.

“The app has proven to be an effective tool in managing the complex mess of traveler health credentials that governments need,” said Walsh. “And, it’s a big vote of confidence that some of the world’s best-known airline brands will be making it available to their customers in the coming months.”

IATA Travel Pass is currently able to manage vaccination certificates from 52 countries, representing approximately 56% of the global air transport market. By the end of November, IATA expects that figure to rise to 74 countries, accounting for 85% of global air traffic.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians wishing to meet their spouse abroad will no longer be required to apply for travel authorization via MyTravelPass from tomorrow.

They are among the seven categories of people who can leave the country without prior authorization from the Immigration Department.

Immigration Director General Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said people traveling abroad for reasons of emergency and serious illness also did not need to apply for permission in advance.

“For those who wish to meet their husband or wife abroad, the exemption is granted if their marriages are registered abroad,” he said.

People attending sports events and championships, seminars and meetings as well as those going on humanitarian missions abroad do not need to apply either.

The other categories are students accepted by foreign universities and the two persons accompanying them, students leaving to resume their studies and their two accompanying persons as well as candidates for examinations abroad and the two accompanying persons.

“Travelers should have all the necessary travel documents to show to immigration officials when they leave the country. “

Khairul Dzaimee said the exemption from having to apply through MyTravelPass remains for Malaysians and foreign diplomats.

On September 16, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein asked the ministry to review the categories of overseas departure requests that can be cleared directly, without having to go through MyTravelPass.

He said the directive was issued by the National Security Council following the meeting of the special pandemic management committee, following public comments and opinions on the MyTravelPass program.

Emirates has signed a contract with the International Air Transport Association to implement the IATA Travel Pass on its global network.

The latest move follows the airline’s successful testing of the health pass in April on select routes from its Dubai hub, expanding the pilot to 12 routes in June.

Emirates said the pass is currently available to its customers traveling from 50 cities, making it the “first airline to implement the IATA solution on six continents”.

Deployment to the 120+ Emirates destinations is expected to be completed by October, he added.

Emirates COO Adel Al Redha said that after working with IATA on the health pass from early pilots to full implementation, he would continue to cooperate with the association on improvements to facilitate safer and smoother travel for travelers.

Nick Careen, IATA senior vice president of operations, safety and security, said Emirates’ implementation of the pass across its global network “strengthens its role as a key tool in managing the myriad complex of health credentials required to travel “.

Saber Corporation has strengthened its partnership with Shiji Distribution Solutions to give hoteliers better access to the Chinese travel market.

Announcing the enhanced cooperation in a statement, Saber said that while the Chinese travel market is one of the largest in the world, Chinese travelers have traditionally been difficult to reach for many hoteliers.

This expanded relationship between Saber and Shiji will open up additional access for hoteliers, through the Saber SynXis hospitality platform, to the channels that Chinese travelers typically use to research and book their trips in the corporate and leisure segments. ”

Saber has previously worked with Shiji to connect hoteliers to select channels in China, including the WeChat booking engine, as well as the Fliggy and Meituan travel platforms.

The renewed expanded agreement allows Saber hotel partners to connect with a wider range of travel agents, online travel agencies (OTAs), travel management companies (TMCs) and wholesalers on the Chinese market.

They can connect to these channels through Saber Channel Connect, which simplifies and automates the distribution of hotel deals, rates and availability and is designed to reach hotel guests where they shop.

Anson Lau, Managing Director of Shiji, said the collaboration would help hoteliers “to seize the recovery and grow their brand by making the most of the significant opportunities presented by the Chinese market.”

“The additional connections available to Saber through Shiji will, on the one hand, help Saber’s hotel partners to build brand awareness in Greater China by boosting bookings from Chinese travelers and, on the other hand, help the Shiji’s strong network of travel agents partnering with instant access to Saber Hotel guests, ”he added.
