San Diego Magazine appointed Callie its best new restaurant of 2021. Pass by the posh East Village spot and you’ll see why – chef-owner Travis Swikard, who cut his teeth at Daniel Boulud’s New York restaurants, is inspired by Mediterranean influences and Californian for what he calls kitchen of the sun. Among Callie’s stunningly presented plates are a tangy and spicy Japanese kanpachi with black lime and avocado, as well as guest favorites like blackened Aleppo chicken and zhoug– hummus topped with pita bread. Complete the experience? Fun, bespoke cocktails like the ‘Blood Ritual’, a vodka pairing palo santo with curacao and local blood orange.
