IATA Travel Pass: everything you need to know

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched the IATA Travel Pass, a digital solution for travelers to present their vaccination, recovery and test results to authorities throughout their journey.

“Inform passengers of the tests, vaccines and other measures they need before traveling, details of where they can be tested and give them the opportunity to share their tests and vaccination results in a verifiable, safe and protective way privacy is the key to giving governments the confidence to open borders ”, IATA wrote on a press release.

In addition, this application will help governments verify the authenticity of tests or vaccinations and the identity of those presenting their certificates. Airlines will also be able to provide accurate information to their passengers on testing requirements and verify whether they meet travel requirements, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

This solution also intends to help laboratories to issue certificates which will be recognized at national and international level and above all to provide travelers with precise information on test requirements. They can get tested, vaccinated and have a secure application to transmit results and certificates to present to airlines and other authorities.

In other words, IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that helps travelers check in and manage their verified COVID-19 related certifications, such as testing and vaccination certifications.

In conclusion, this application includes the following four modules:

  • Health Requirements Register which allows passengers to find travel information, tests and vaccines required for their trip, powered by IATA Timatic.
  • Register of screening and vaccination centers to help passengers find these centers before or after arrival so that they can complete their tests and continue their journey.
  • Laboratory application which authorizes laboratories and other medical establishments to issue the results of their tests or vaccination certificates to passengers.
  • Travel PASS application through which the traveler can create a digital passport, check if their test / vaccination certificate meets the standards and share the result of the rest or the vaccination certificate with the authorities. Travelers can use the document to demonstrate their trip digitally and facilitate the travel experience.

Previously, the Association called on governments around the world to adapt and implement the EU’s COVID-19 digital certificate – the digital solution that allows Europeans to travel freely across the bloc of 27 nations.

“The DCC was delivered in record time to facilitate the reopening of EU states to travel. In the absence of a single global standard for digital vaccination certificates, it should serve as a model for other countries looking to implement digital vaccination certificates to facilitate travel and associated economic benefits,Said Deputy Managing Director Conrad Clifford.

The document is issued to people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, to those who have recovered from the virus, and to those who have tested negative for the disease within the past 72 or 48 hours, respectively, to the type of test.
