Travel agency air ticket sales top $8 billion for first time since pandemic
New data from Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) showed that air ticket sales from accredited travel agencies were $8.4 billion in May 2022.
The May totals showed a 135% year-over-year increase from May 2021 and an 8% month-over-month increase from April 2022 to January 2020.
In total, the month-over-month results for May 2022 indicate that total sales increased 8.2%, total passenger travel increased 1%, US domestic travel United fell 1% and international travel rose 6%.
“Demand remains strong for air travel heading into the summer travel season,” said Steve Solomon, ARC’s vice president of global customers and data products. “Now that the requirement for inbound international testing in the United States has been dropped, we expect international passenger travel to continue its upward trajectory.”
Leisure travel agencies are showing positive signs ahead of the busy summer season, with the share of leisure-oriented agency tickets sold through May for holidays scheduled between June and August increasing 52% year-on-year the other relative to the share of corporate and online tickets. Sales.
International trips settled by the CRA in May 2022 increased 82% year-on-year to 8.4 million, while US domestic trips increased 28% to 14.3 million during the same period. The total number of passenger trips also increased by 43%, from 15.8 million to 22.8 million.
